Welcome to Arbor Grove Elementary – where every moment is a new beginning! At Arbor Grove, we believe a solid academic foundation paired with a wide variety of extension opportunities is the key to a successful future for our students. Elementary school is the beginning of a student’s path to graduation and it is our goal for our kids to love school! Our teachers work hard to get to know individual students and their families; their interests and strengths, and areas where they need to improve.
Strong classroom instruction is supported by multiple opportunities for students to engage with the latest in technology, and many of our classes have class sets of iPads. We recognize that the students of today will learn differently than in the past, and we want to give them every opportunity to interact with the technology that they will need for their future success – even Pre-K! Student engagement and excitement is high as they use these modern learning tools.
As well as learning in the classroom, we offer a range of after-school opportunities. Our 4th and 5th grade students participate in Putnam City’s intramural sports program. This includes boys’ and girls’ soccer, basketball and track. This year we will continue with running club in the fall to prepare students for participation in the Putnam City Cancer Classic. Most mornings we can be found outside having fun and burning energy! Our library media center is also available for student use from 7:30 every morning.
Putnam City is widely known for supporting the arts, and at Arbor Grove, we are active participants! We will again be working with Prairie Dance Theater Company to provide a free, after school dance program. The students will perform in December and again at the Oklahoma City Festival of the Arts in April. We also have an after school advanced art program, drum line, choir, and strings available for 4th and 5th grade students wishing to learn an instrument. More than half of our 5th graders participate in ballroom dancing, voluntarily, as part of their PE program. The students really enjoy this activity, and we have some outstanding results from these young dancing stars! Many of these opportunities are available as a result of the dedication of our teachers, most of whom sponsor these activities voluntarily.
Parents/caregivers play an important role in a child’s school success, and I encourage you to participate as often as you are able, starting with joining the PTA! Our teachers aim for 100% participation at Parent/Teacher conferences, and this is an important time to discuss your child’s progress. Parents/caregivers are also encouraged to contact the school with questions, concerns, and compliments.
Welcome to Arbor Grove – it’s a great place to be!
